About Me
Radical Radiator Repair

I had a car a few years ago that seemed to always have one problem after another. Finally, I got tired of paying for repair after repair, knowing that I was just going to end up paying again in a month or so. I wanted to save up for a better car, but I couldn’t do it if I was always paying the mechanic. So the next time that my car started overheating, I decided to fix it myself. I bought some tools, checked some books on car repair out of the library, looked up answers to my questions online, and pulled parts from old cars at the junkyard. And eventually, I fixed it. You can fix your own car problems too. I started this website to help people who are trying to learn how to be their own mechanics. If I can do it, you can do it.

Four Issues That Could Prevent You From Renting A Car

Bobbie Jones

Need to rent a car? Maybe your vehicle is in the shop -- or maybe you're seeing all the lovely sights of a brand new city. Whatever the case, there are some potential issues you could run into that you should deal with before you need to get rolling.

1. You Don't Have a Credit Card On You

If you don't have a credit card on you, you're usually out of luck. Most auto rental companies will only take a credit card. And that's specifically a credit card -- they won't take a debit card, either. This is so that they can charge the amount that they need to charge after the rental, which hasn't yet been determined.

2. You're Under the Age of 25

You can technically rent a car under the age of 25...but it's going to take some work. Most companies will either refuse to rent a vehicle to you or will charge you more. This isn't strictly a lack of trust, it's also because their vehicle insurance will likely go up if they accept drivers under the age of 25.

3. Your Credit Card and License Aren't the Same

If, as mentioned, you don't have a credit card, you might be tempted to use someone else's. Or you might bring someone else to pay for the car. Or you might have a company card. All of these options won't work. The payment method needs to be in your name specifically. If someone else pays for the car, they have to be the one who is driving it. This can cause some complications for those who are trying to rent a car for business purposes; rather than use a company card, you'll often need to get reimbursed later on.

4. You Didn't Reserve the Car You Needed

People can be idiosyncratic. Often, there are certain types of vehicles that we learn to drive and others we just can't. If you only know automatic transmission cars, for instance, you need to make sure that you reserve an automatic transmission car. Otherwise you could end up at the lot without a vehicle available.

Always call the car rental company to find out about any additional requirements that might exist. Otherwise you could end up stranded in unfamiliar territory! And don't forget, the auto rental company can waive some of these requirements if they want to -- so you can call around until you find one that will.
